This. This is what motherhood looks like. It’s noon. Your baby is still in pajamas. You have not brushed your teeth or hair yet, and you need to run your older child’s lunch and special hot chocolate (to accommodate for his food allergies, of course) to his school. Did I mention you overslept this morning? That’s why you didn’t have time to make lunches. So now you have spent your morning rushing around like a mad woman and playing catch up. Your to-do lists for work and home continue to grow and you feel like you’re never going to get it all done. But you will. And if you don’t, it probably doesn’t matter. If you know me personally, you’ve probably seen my social media account full of adorable pictures of my kids and animals… and my over the top Elf on the Shelf routines. You probably know that I do a lot of babywearing and breastfeeding. But what you don’t see on social media is the hard stuff that goes on EVERY day. The crying babies. The limping dogs. The piles of laundry. The dirty litter box. The tardy days at school. This is reality. And you know what? I love it. In between all of the moments of sheer chaos, and wondering if I remembered to feed the lizard or not, are these beautiful little moments in time. I see my kiddos play together. I see my children bond with our pets. I see my child work hard to move up to the next karate class. I watch them create messes and memories. The rushing around? The tears? It’s all worth it. I see you, too, other moms. I want you to know you are not alone in this crazy, messy journey of motherhood. Try to cuddle more and stress less this holiday season. You’ll brush your hair again… one day.
